Thank you for your overwhelmingly generous response to our “Week of Giving” challenge.  We collected a record number of items in all categories!  For Mary’s Place and other family shelters, we packed over 15 very large boxes. The receiving institutions are very grateful – one in particular said that much of its operating budget goes to toiletries such as toothpaste, and that for the whole next year, they can direct funds to other pressing needs.
We filled THIRTY boxes for the food bank!  And best of all, we beat our sock record from last year (1236 pairs collected.)  This year we were able to present 1256 pairs to Mr. Savage from the Out of the Cold program! The students were so excited to count out the socks and see our goal reached and exceeded!
Friday afternoon we had our celebration assembly. The staff superhero team was victorious against Grade 2 and grade 6 in the sock relay. Grades 1, 3, 4, and 5 beat the staff.  EVERYONE is demanding a rematch – so I guess we are on for another year of sock mania. A special thank you goes to our Compass Crew students who organized and led the Celebration of Giving Week.
To quote Mr. Savage…..”Millen Woods kids are all the real superheroes!”
