On May 5, “Music Monday”, students joined classes all across Canada in joyous song! We thrilled to the harmony of our Kodaly Choir and we got in the beat with our class performances and our recorder group! On Tuesday, the Kodaly Choir of Millen Woods combined with over 20 other schools to form a mass choir on the Centre In The Square stage. The effect was mesmerizing! The students performed 18 songs and our very own Geetanjali was a featured soloist in one of the pieces, Seed to Sow. The students were extremely responsible and well-behaved performers and they made us all very proud! Congratulations Kodaly Choir!
Then this week our Grades 4 and 5 students have had the privilege of constructing and performing with drums under the guidance of guest artist, John Somosi of Sky Buffalo. Mr. Somosi taught the students about the aboriginal culture through music and storytelling and provoked critical thinking and discussion about damaging stereotypes we hold about others. Four full days of very rich learning.
